Customization & Inscription List

When selecting a companion or individual monument, plan for the following details: 

• Basic Demographics: Full legal names, birth dates, and passing dates. 

• Shared Epitaphs (For Companion Stones):

  • "Together Forever"

  • "Side by Side for Eternity"

  • "United in Love"

  • "Always in our hearts" 

• Individualized Text: Short messages, titles (e.g., "Beloved Mother"), or hobby references placed beneath each person's name. 

• Artwork & Symbols: Religious symbols (e.g., crosses, stars), floral borders, or custom etchings of hobbies or favorite places. 

• Material & Finishes: Polished or textured granite, marble, or bronze. 

 

Pre-Planning Considerations

• Cemetery Regulations: Always consult the specific cemetery's guidelines. Many cemeteries restrict headstone sizes, shapes, and materials (e.g., some restrict memorials exclusively to bronze flat markers). 

• Timeline for Spouses: When one spouse is living, monument companies typically engrave both names and birthdates, leaving the second death date blank to be added on-site at a later time.

• Budget: Companion headstones can offer cost efficiencies over purchasing two separate individual markers.
